Newborn Nathaniel

Babies have their own schedules, don’t they?  Nathaniel was due in mid-July, so his family felt pretty confident tearing the house apart a month before that to move rooms and redo the nursery and all those other fun nesting rituals.  Then, after they took everything out of every drawer and completely dismantled everything….he came early!  They really wanted the relaxed feel of a home newborn session while he was tiny, so we just cuddled up on the couch with the window light coming in and had ourselves a newborn session when he was just 5 days old.  A big welcome to Nathaniel, and congratulations to Jim, Melissa, and Tori!

I love the picture of Tori as a tiny girl in the background of this one!

I say, if your knees aren’t green by the end of the day, you ought to seriously re-examine your life.
~Bill Watterson, Calvin & Hobbes

I think that pretty much every lesson you need to learn in life can be found in Calvin & Hobbes cartoon strips.  I’m a night owl who fights her way out of bed for morning biking when it really would be easier to just lay there and listen to my dogs snore.  I love to travel, and I prefer cabins or camping to resorts (though, the Bellagio certainly is nice.)  If it’s tall, I want to climb it.  I’m happiest when I’m miles from civilization, and if the TV disappeared from our house it might be weeks before I noticed.  I’m crazy about my children and my husband.  I wear kung fu shoes all the time.  I read everything I can get my hands on, constantly, all day long, even the cereal box if that’s all that’s handy.  I’m happy almost all the time, and it’s really hard to make me angry.  I love music and have something playing almost constantly….it might be punk, ska, blues, or show tunes, it just depends on my mood, but it will *never* be country. Never. I only eat dark chocolate.  I can sing, but I hate an audience.

Silly little details?  Sure.  These are random facts about me that don’t mean much by themselves.  But those little things add up to who we are. These are the kind of unique  traits that I want to capture with my work.  The way your little girl smiles when the breezes are in her hair, the way your son carries a baseball around all day, the curls on your baby’s neck that might disappear with the first haircut….these are all part of who they are, right now.  They’re small things, but they’re meaningful. They are, quite simply, today.  Tomorrow, they will not be quite the same.

Thank you for considering Catch a Star to take a peek at your children, today.  We look forward to meeting you and learning what makes your family like none other.
